Participants: Magnus Carlsen, Vladimir Kramnik, Anish Giri, Levon Aronian, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Veselin Topalov, Li Chao*, Pavel Eljanov, Pentala Harikrishna and Nils Grandelius. *replaced Sergey Karjakin, who withdrew after winning the 2016 Candidates Tournament.
